5300

After my air conditioning turns off my fan runs an additional minute or two.

Many Braeburn thermostats include a feature called Residual Cooling Fan Delay. This feature allows the fan to run 0, 30, 60 or 90 more seconds after your cooling compressor turns off. This will blow the remaining cool air through your ductwork and increase overall efficiency. To adjust the Residual Cooling Fan Delay feature, please see your users manual. Users manuals are available on this website.

Can I connect an outdoor remote sensor to my thermostat?

Newer Braeburn 5300 thermostats will accept an outdoor remote sensor, however older versions will not. A simple way to identify a newer model 5300 is to see how many stages of heat it can accommodate. If it is a 3 stage heat model (3H/2C) then it an accept connection of a Braeburn outdoor sensor (model 5490).

Does my thermostat require batteries?

Some Braeburn thermostats require 2 "AA" alkaline batteries while many newer models can be battery operated, directly wired (hardwired) or both. Check your user manual for specific instructions.

HI is shown in the display where the temperature is normally displayed.

The temperature sensed by the thermostat is higher than the 99 F (37 C) upper limit of the thermostats display range. The display will return to normal after the sensed temperature lowers within the 40 to 99 F (4 to 37 C) display range. Turn on the cooling system or use other methods to lower the temperature. This condition could occur from the system being turned off during an exceptionally warm period or upon installation when the thermostat has been stored for a long period of time in a warm vehicle or location prior to being installed.

How do I adjust the temperature differential setting?

Press and hold the RETURN button for a few seconds. The screen will change and your temperature differential setting will appear in the display. Use the UP or DOWN arrow button to adjust this setting to your desired value. Wait a few moments and the screen will return to normal.

How do I completely bypass all programming in my thermostat?

To completely bypass all programming, simply press the HOLD button once. HOLD will appear in the display. For as long as HOLD appears in the display the thermostat will not change the set-point temperature unless you adjust it yourself with the up or down arrow buttons. If you wish to return to the program, press the HOLD button again. Hold mode can be used to permanently bypass the program is desired.

How do I get into the USER SETTINGS mode?

To enter the USER SETTINGS mode where you can adjust settings such as your temperature differential, press and hold the RETURN button for 4 seconds. At that time you can use the UP or DOWN buttons freely to change the desired set point temperature. the display will return to normal mode after a few seconds. The program will resume at the next scheduled time setting in your program or 2-4 hours later (this setting is adjustable), whichever comes first. You can return to the program immediately by pressing the HOLD button twice.

How does the circulating fan option work?

If you select the circulating fan mode your system fan will come on for 12 minutes at a user selectable interval of system off time. You can select the system off time in the user settings mode. Fan mode is selected with the fan button located on the front of the thermostat.

I have a heat pump system and CHECK has appeared in the digital display or the red CHECK light (some older models) is illuminated. What does this mean?

Some heat pump systems have a system fault output that, when connected properly to your Braeburn heat pump thermostat, will indicate when there is a problem with your heat pump system. For service, call your installer or local heating/cooling contractor.

LO is shown in the display where the temperature is normally displayed.

The temperature sensed by the thermostat is lower than the 40 F (4 C) lower limit of the thermostats display range. The display will return to normal after the sensed temperature raises to within the 40 to 99 F (4 to 37 C) display range. Turn on the heating system or use other methods to raise the temperature. This condition could occur from the system being turned off during a cold weather period or upon installation when the thermostat has been stored for a long period of time in a cold vehicle or location prior to being installed.

My heating or cooling system will not turn on at all.

Put the thermostat into the OFF mode. Remove the batteries (if equipped) and press the reset button located on the front of the thermostat. Replace the batteries and move the system button to the HEAT or COOL position and try running your heating or cooling system again. If the problem persists then you may have a problem with your heating system that is causing it to not operate properly. You may need to call your installer or a local service contractor in your area.

My heating system (furnace) functions intermittently or doesn't always reach my set point temperature before turning off.

Put the thermostat in the OFF mode. Remove the batteries (if equipped) and press the reset button located on the front of the thermostat. Replace the batteries and move the system switch to the HEAT position and then try running your heating system (furnace) again. If the problem persists then you may have a problem with your heating system (furnace) that is causing it to run intermittently or turn off prematurely. You may need to call your installer or a local service contractor in your area.

My heating system (heat pump) blows cool air when in HEAT mode and warm air when in COOL mode.

Your thermostat may have been wired incorrectly or you are having a problem with the heating system (heat pump) system itself. You may need to call your installer or a local service contractor in your area.

My system cycles too often or not often enough.

Your thermostat is equipped with an adjustable temperature differential setting which will determine how much your system cycles. The lower the differential setting, the more your system will cycle and the tighter the temperature will remain. If your system cycles too often, raise your differential setting to a higher degree.

My thermostat seems to not be following the program and comes on earlier than it should.

Your thermostat may be entering Adaptive Recovery Mode. Adaptive Recovery Mode is a feature that attempts to achieve your set-point temperature by the time you desire. Because of this, your heat cycle might start up to 2 hours early and your cool cycle might start up to 3 hours early. This all depends on how many degrees of recovery is needed. Many newer Braeburn models allow you to turn this feature off in the User Settings mode. Please see your users manual.

The display is flashing the word EMER. What does this mean?

If the display is flashing the word EMER it indicates that your thermostat is in Emergency Heat mode and that the Emergency Heat is currently running. Emergency Heat is a backup heating system commonly used with heat pump systems. When in Emergency Heat mode your heat pump compressor will not be activate. Emergency Heat mode is typically used when your heat pump system is not functioning or when it is too cold outside for your heat pump system to adequately maintain a comfortable temperature.

The display is flashing the word FILTER. What does this mean and how do I remove it?

Your thermostat is equipped with a feature that is used to remind you to check/change your furnace filter. The feature can be set for 0 (off), 30, 60, 90, 120, 180 or 365 days. When the time period is up a FILTER reminder will flash in the display. To remove the reminder and start the countdown over, simply press the RETURN button.

The display is flashing the word HEAT or COOL but no air is coming out of the vents or the air is not the right temperature.

When the word HEAT or COOL flashes it indicates that the thermostat is telling the heating or cooling system to run. If the heating or cooling system is not running then there most likely is a problem within the system. Contact a local heating / air conditioning contractor in your area to service your equipment.

The display is flashing the word HEAT or COOL.

Most newer Braeburn thermostat models will flash the word HEAT or COOL when the thermostat is calling for your heating or cooling system to run. When the call for heating or cooling is over, the word HEAT or COOL will become solid. Please note that some older Braeburn models do not flash the HEAT or COOL icon when the system is running.

The display is flashing the word UV or HUMID. What does this mean and how do I remove it?

Your thermostat is equipped with a feature that is used to remind you to check/change your UV light(s) and/or humidifier pad(s). The feature can be set for 0 (off) 180 or 365 days. When the time period is up a UV or HUMID reminder will flash in the display. To remove the reminder and start the countdown over, simply press the RETURN button.

The second stage of heating or cooling will not operate.

If this thermostat was just recently installed it is possible that it was not configured for the appropriate system type. This thermostat is factory set for a 1 Heat / 1 Cool conventional system. If it is being installed on multistage or heat pump equipment the "System Type" option needs to be adjusted in the Installer Settings mode. Please see the installer manual.

The thermostat display reads "-AC", what does this mean?

If "-AC" appears in the display, this means that the thermostat has lost AC power from your system transformer. You will most likely need to contact a local heating & air conditioning contractor in your area to service your equipment.

The word AUX is showing in the display. What does this mean?

If you have a multi-stage heating and/or cooling system (2 or more stages of heating or cooling) then this means that the 2nd stage (auxiliary stage) of heating or cooling is running based on the calculated need imbedded in the logic of your Braeburn thermostat. If you do not have a multi-stage heating or cooling system then AUX being displayed means that a multi-stage thermostat was installed on your single stage system and you will occasionally see AUX displayed on the screen, however it does not affect the function of your thermostat or system.

What is the temperature differential setting?

Your thermostat is equipped with an adjustable temperature differential setting which will determine how much your system cycles. The lower the differential setting, the more your system will cycle and the tighter the temperature will remain. If your system cycles too often, raise your differential setting to a higher degree.

What type of battery should I use for my thermostat?

If your thermostat requires batteries, use only type "AA" alkaline batteries. Make sure to install the positive (+) and negative (-) ends of the batteries correctly as shown inside the battery compartment.

When I turn on my gas furnace cool air blows out of the vents for the first couple of minutes.

Your thermostat may be configured for an electric furnace. When configured for an electric furnace the fan comes on immediately when there is a call for heat. Gas furnaces need a couple minutes of warm up time before the fan runs. Please see the "installation" section of your owner's manual for information on how to properly set your gas/electric fan option. All manuals are available on this website.

When I turn on my heating system (furnace) it takes a couple minutes for any heat to come out of the vents.

Most gas furnaces have a short warm up period before the fan will come on and circulate the warm air throughout your ductwork. This is to prevent cool air from blowing at initial startup and is not controlled by the thermostat.

When should I change my batteries?

If your thermostat requires batteries, you need to change them when the battery icon appears in the display. This indicates that the batteries are becoming low and should be changed as soon as possible. Always change batteries when you will be away for a long period of time.

Why does my thermostat display the word "NONE" when I press the PROG or HOLD button(s)?

Your thermostat can be configured as a 7-day programmable, 5/2-day programmable or a non-programmable thermostat. If you press the PROG or HOLD buttons and the display reads "NONE" then this means that the thermostat was configured as a non-programmable thermostat. Please see the installer manual to make changes to the configuration.

Why is the MORN, DAY, EVE, NIGHT, OCC or UNOCC icon is flashing in my display?

When one of these icons is flashing in the display it simply means that the program has been temporarily overridden. The program will resume at the next scheduled time setting in your program or 2-4 hours later (this setting is adjustable), whichever comes first. You can return to the program immediately by pressing the HOLD button twice.
